JLC previews throwback Reverso for SIHH 2011
As reported by our friends in the Far East, Jaeger LeCoultre has unveiled a new, ultra sleek variant of their trademark model, the Reverso, shown worn by Mad Men star and brand ambassador Jon Hamm above. The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 watch is a handwound low profile affair with dagger hands and baton markers which pay homage to the original 1930s watch. Back in those days, the rectangular shape was standard fair for watches which later was abandoned by most companies except JLC. We think that the decision has definitely paid off: we cant come up with a such iconic dress watch that manages to be a lot of fun, unlike, lets say, the Patek Calatrava (which, while beautiful, isnt perhaps the most exciting watch in the world). The new Reverso is the thinnest one yet: 7,2mm at its thickest, thanks to the extremely thin cal 822 movement.
Jon Hamm has worn both a gold Reverso (similar to this one) and a modern day Rolex Explorer on Mad Men in an anachronistic fashion. Whether it be a production mistake or overly aggressive product placement is perhaps best left unsaid.
SIHH 2011 begins tomorrow in Geneva. Of course, well be covering our favorite timepiec! es from the event.
