IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days (Ref. 5101)

Word is that IWC will be making its longstanding and classcially-styled Portofino collection the star of the show for 2011, starting with this new IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days. The new Eight Days (a reference to its power reserve), is a beautiful looking watch, right down to the Portofino notation on the dial. The watch comes on a leather strap made by high-end Italian shoemaker Santoni which I think is a nice touch, too! The version you see here is a steel case/silver dial. Also comes in steel case/black dial and a red gold case with slate-colored dial.

There will also be a Portofino Dual Time model (Ref. 3610), which should be exciting as well. Also, the Portofino Automatic (Ref. 3565) and Chronograph (Ref. 3910) will get a few tweaks, including being available on a Milanese mesh bracelets. Remember TikTok and LunaTik , the iPod Nano conversion project we showed you on the crowd-sourced funding site KickStart? Well today we've got another timepiece project for you, also currently being featured on Kickstart. The Haptica is an innovative timepiece that indicates time using braille. The dots actually rotate on the face of the Haptica and as found and designer David Chavez puts it, represent a major step forward in timepieces for the visually impaired. If the project reaches its $150,000 capital goal, produciton will begin and each will cost around $250. Currently, Haptica has 24 backers and $13,085 secured, so we need to get some major support going here!     The Eterna Kon Tiki Concept Diver: A True Modern Classic, For Sale

    In the popular (read: crowded and too often boring) dive watch market it seems that some of the most popular recent ( and upcoming ) releases have been trips down horological memory lane. One such stand out of 2010 was the reissue of the 1973 Kon Tiki Super , from Eterna, a great brand with a long history (they founded ETA before selling it to the Swatch Group). The Eterna weve found for you today was first seen in 2005 and is also called a Kon Tiki. Say hello to the radically styled and technically impressive Kon Tiki Concept diver. Its most notable feature is its flip out case; the PVD titanium container pivots out from the skeletonized steel bridge. Why go to all this fuss?
